Researchers have developed a new transdermal optical analysis technology that simplifies blood pressure monitoring. For this, the front camera of the smartphone and artificial intelligence are used. The idea behind the new technology is to detect proteins in the reflected light captured by the camera when shooting a selfie video. The accuracy of the system, say developers from the University of Toronto, is 95%.

The researchers demonstrated a working prototype of their solution. For this, a group of 1,328 volunteers was studied: Asians and Caucasians - they have light skin. How the technology will work on people with dark skin is still a question. In theory, it should also show high results, but this remains to be tested.

If the development passes clinical trials and reaches the mass stage, it can become a lifesaver, especially in regions without a quality healthcare industry. After all, hypertension is the main cause of heart disease and death.
